Corn Belt recap October 22, 2013
University extended the longest winning streak in Corn Belt this week by beating Mahomet-Seymour, 55-8. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
University took down the Bulldogs 55-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Arion Worthman threw for 253 yards and 7 touchdowns and ran for 166 yards in the win.
Dusty Burk's team's dynamic duo of Worthman and Austin Welter proved tough for Mahomet-Seymour to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kane Wildermuth helped University's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 63 yards.
He went 15-23 with 1 interception.
Nick Wotton was a beast in the backfield as Pontiac bested Eureka/Roanoke-Benson.
5-foot-10 quarterback Joe Kenney of Keith Pogue's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,602. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Cory Hartema. The Central Catholic star has 34 catches for 640 yards.
The Pioneers' Worthman needs only 44 yards against Cahokia next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 81 carries Worthman has accumulated 956 yard this year.
Prairie Central and Rantoul played the most contested game in the league this week, with Prairie Central eventually emerging with a 34-28 victory. Matt Hartke ran for 147 yards during the win.
