After a string of 11 wins, Marion's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cole Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 47-35 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaiden Riley, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points and seven boards. Riley is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Travis Randle, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cole to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayvin Ybarra, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 22 points along with five boards and four steals. That's the most steals Ybarra has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Logan Beckstrom, who went 7 for 12 en route to 20 points and six rebounds.
Marion's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-6. As for Cole, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-7.
Coincidentally, both will both be playing Randolph the next time they take the court. Marion will head out to face Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Cole will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th.
