Malik Sims and Elton Anthony provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Dumas. The connection went for 83 yards, the longest such play in 4A Region I District 3 this season.
Palo Duro moved up to 232 from 260 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Dons climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Demons 38-21.
Dumas' dynamic duo of Rylan Gerber and Nathan Thomas proved tough for Palo Duro to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gerber threw for 318 yards and two touchdowns and Thomas had 126 yards receiving. Matthew Clemens helped Dumas' passing attack out by catching five balls for 94 yards.
Antaun Turner was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 139 yards on 22 carries as Steve Parr's team lost to Steve Parr's team. Teammate Sims added to the ground attack by rushing for 65 yards.
Caprock's Michael Guerrero and Bustos Addison have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region I District 3 in both passing and receiving yards. Guerrero has thrown for 2675 yards this season, while Addison, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 73 catches for 1335 yards. Nathan Blackwell from the Demons leads the league in rushing with 629 yards.
Going into this week's game against Randall, Dumas' Gerber needs two passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 20 touchdowns this year, Gerber has thrown for 1998 yards with nine interceptions.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Canyon takes on Amarillo. The Eagles are in second place, while the Sandies are in third place.
