Given 1 of 1 Academy Red's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 21st in North Carolina, while St. Margaret's is ranked 92nd in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Margaret's loss came despite strong showings from Paula Carrillo and Ilona Syzdek. Carrillo scored 22 points, while Syzdek scored 18 points. That was a full 40% of St. Margaret's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jade Wright, who scored six points.
