Pomona hasn't had much luck against Evergreen recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Panthers will head out to face off against the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Pomona turned things around against Greenway two weeks ago. They came out on top against the Demons by a score of 8-4.
Maddux Najera made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other pitching news, Tyler Dempsey looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Pomona's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).
