Baseball Recap: Winston Academy Takes a Loss

If Winston Academy was feeling good fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Oak Hill Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Winston Academy fell just short of East Rankin Academy by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. Winston Academy was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced East Rankin Academy earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

Tripp Hill put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Hill wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Holder Tidwell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

With the loss, Winston Academy broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for East Rankin Academy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Winston Academy has already played their next contest, a 15-3 defeat against Manchester Academy on the 12th. East Rankin Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Park Place Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on March 25th.
