The Lyndhurst Golden Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Glen Rock Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Lyndhurst 8.7, Glen Rock 10.5) so any points scored will be well earned.
Lyndhurst's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Elmwood Park to the tune of 52-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Lyndhurst found their leader in sophomore Avery Cano, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Randy Leon, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Lyndhurst was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Lyndhurst, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Leon, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Glen Rock not only won two weeks ago, but they posted their biggest win since October 10, 2024 (when they won 35-0). They were the clear victors by a 34-8 margin over Manchester Regional. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Lyndhurst's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.7 points over those games. As for Glen Rock, their record now sits at 5-1.
Lyndhurst came up short against Glen Rock in their previous matchup back in October of 2021, falling 19-13. Thankfully for the Golden Bears, Mike Mccarthy (who rushed for 59 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 59 yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
