WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight recap Nov. 7, 2012
North Allegheny extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week by beating Altoona, 42-14. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Tigers.
Seneca Valley took down Hempfield Area 50-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
North Allegheny's dynamic duo of Mack Leftwich and Gregg Garrity proved tough for the Lions to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Leftwich threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns and Garrity had 122 yards receiving. Elijah Zeise helped North Allegheny's passing attack out by catching one ball for 78 yards.
Thomas Jendesky was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 93 yards on six carries as Butler topped Altoona. Teammate Robert Vernick added to the ground attack by rushing for 36 yards.
The Tigers' Leftwich and Garrity have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Leftwich has thrown for 1919 yards this season, while Garrity, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 36 catches for 789 yards. The Raiders' Forrest Barnes leads the league in rushing yards with 1179.
Central Catholic and Penn-Trafford played the most hotly contested game in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week, with Central Catholic eventually emerging with a 30-27 victory.
