The McDermitt Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 60-44 bruising from Owyhee. McDermitt has struggled against Owyhee recently, as their match on Thursday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, McDermitt saw an underclassman step up: Shandon Camas dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Camas hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for seven straight games. Eli Northrup was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, McDermitt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 14 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Owyhee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hunter Smartt, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Bisaapi Melendez, who scored 15 points.
McDermitt has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Owyhee, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.
McDermitt won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Eureka at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Eureka is coming into the matchup with six straight wins at home, so McDermitt is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Owyhee, they and Wells will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Owyhee is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game this season.
