Baseball Recap: Sumner Beats Independence for Their Third Straight Victory

Sumner put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Independence Tigers with a sharp 11-5 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cowboys also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Blaise Sanders, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Connor Forrest, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Sumner's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Independence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Sumner will square off against Lakeside at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Sumner knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Lakeside likes a good challenge. As for Independence, they will venture away from home to square off against Albany at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
