This season hasn't been kind to the Coconut Creek Cougars, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They were dealt a 86-55 loss at the hands of Taravella on Monday. While losing is never fun, Coconut Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 701st, while Taravella is ranked 238th).
When it comes to explaining why Coconut Creek lost, one person who can't be blamed is McKevan Bell. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with six rebounds. Bell set a new season high mark in steals with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Fabrini Labrassere, who scored ten points.
Leading Taravella to victory were James Ganley and Andres Demoya. Ganley scored 25 points, while Demoya dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. Ganley continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Bryan, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Coconut Creek bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Taravella, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Coconut Creek will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Nova at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Taravella won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Coral Springs Charter at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Coral Springs Charter comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
