Greater Grace Christian Academy is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season last Thursday. They came up short against Mount Airy Christian Academy, falling 19-6.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Rockbridge Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Covenant Life on Thursday. The Scots blew past the Cougars 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Scots, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
John Ault and Will Schingeck made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Ault tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schingeck struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Ault has become a key player for Rockbridge Academy: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 1-4 otherwise. At bat, Ault went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Schingeck went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those doubles were Schingeck's first of the season.
In other batting news, Evan Tessneer was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Rockbridge Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Samuel Parlette, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Rockbridge Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The win got Rockbridge Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Greater Grace Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
