The Unity Reed Lions pushed their score all the way to 72 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Rock Ridge by a score of 75-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Friday (58), Unity Reed still had to take the loss.
Charles Pargo and Julian Shahateet certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Pargo scored 27 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks, while Shahateet dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 assists. Shahateet scored a full 29.2% of Unity Reed's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zayden NIchols, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Even though they lost, Unity Reed were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Unity Reed's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Rock Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Unity Reed won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Freedom knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Unity Reed likes a good challenge. As for Rock Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Stone Bridge at 1:45 p.m.
