Walnut Hills will head out on the road to challenge Milford at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Walnut Hills has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Walnut Hills is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Saturday. They came up short against St. Xavier, falling 13-1.
Walnut Hills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emmet Cunningham, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Cunningham's first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Milford). They put the hurt on Winton Woods with a sharp 23-1 win on Friday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Sammy Cooper made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Caden Hutzel and Maverick Snyder dominated on the mound. Hutzel pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Snyder tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Snyder has become a key player for Milford: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Milford got a big performance out of Dan Cafferky, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Cafferky has posted since back in April of 2025. Max Raussen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with four runs and one RBI.
Milford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.8.
The win made it two in a row for Milford and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Walnut Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Walnut Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Milford struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Walnut Hills came up short against Milford in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 6-1. Can Walnut Hills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
