Excel Christian is 2-8 against Whittell since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Excel Christian Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Whittell Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Excel Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Excel Christian, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to Smith Valley. Excel Christian has not had much luck with Smith Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Excel Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mark Doerfler, who scored 20 points, and Keegan Davis who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Whittell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 15th straight loss. They were outmatched by Virginia City on the road and fell 75-18. Whittell was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-10.
Excel Christian now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Whittell, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-19.
Everything came up roses for Excel Christian against Whittell in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 54-14 win. With Excel Christian ahead 31-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
