Reading is 0-10 against the Spartans since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Reading Rangers will be playing at home against the Springport Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Monday, Reading took their game at home with ease, bagging a 62-35 win over the Terriers. The victory was just what Reading needed coming off of a 51-15 defeat in their prior match.
Aubree Ervans continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Santure, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Springport unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Bath by a score of 61-58.
The losing side was boosted by Maddux Locke, who scored 28 points along with seven assists and five steals. Locke is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chloey Speer, who scored six points along with five assists and four steals.
Reading's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Springport, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Reading have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Springport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Reading was dealt a bruising 59-17 defeat at the hands of the Spartans in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Locke, who scored 22 points along with six assists and five steals. Now that Reading knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
