The Woodbridge Warriors will be taking part in a tournament against the Burroughs Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodbridge's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Burroughs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Woodbridge and Irvine had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Woodbridge came out on top against Irvine by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Vaqueros on their field since March 17, 2022.
Mia Tamkoc spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Woodbridge's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Clarissa Stayrook, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Seli Yamamoto, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Burroughs won against Cleveland on Wednesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Burroughs was the clear victor by a 15-3 margin over Harvard-Westlake. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won three matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Burroughs also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Valentina Reyes gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. What's more, Reyes posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Burroughs got a massive performance out of Karlee Earl, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Kalani Miramontes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Burroughs hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in four consecutive contests.
Burroughs' win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Woodbridge, the win got them back to even at 5-5-1.
Woodbridge came out on top in a nail-biter against Burroughs when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Woodbridge since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
