Baseball Recap: Calhoun Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Calhoun waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the United Nations International Unis with a sharp 15-3 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Quentin Ruffin made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Calhoun let Josh Mandel and Howard Jones run wild. Mandel got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Jones went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those two hits gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerve' Atsin, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Calhoun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Calhoun's win bumped their record up to 11-3-1.

They will have a chance to go back-to-back against United Nations International: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
