The Channel Islands Raiders came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Fillmore with points to spare, taking the game 70-52. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Channel Islands also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Leading Channel Islands to victory were Nazir Ivey and Angel Avila. Ivey scored 17 points along with five assists and two steals, while Avila scored 22 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Avila has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rajai Moody, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Octavio Orozco and Isaac Weslow certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Orozco dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Weslow dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Orozco scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Joey Ocegueda, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Channel Islands pushed their record up to 9-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points per game. As for Fillmore, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Channel Islands will play host again and welcome Carpinteria, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Carpinteria is ranked 847th, while Channel Islands is ranked 823rd). As for Fillmore, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Paula at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Paula has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 386 points over their last six contests.
