The Tolleson Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Apollo Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tolleson had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Basha on Friday. The Wolverines never let the Bears get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Wolverines, who have now won three matchups in a row.
DIEGO SERNA tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, JOSE CORRALES was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Tolleson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8-1 when he doesn't). DIEGO VELAZQUEZ was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apollo). They blew past West Point 13-1 on Friday. The Hawks have beaten the Dragons the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Dragons has come to flipping the script.
Rey Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mateo Flores, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Isaiah Mendoza also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Apollo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Tolleson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Apollo, their record now sits at 13-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tolleson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Apollo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tolleson was able to grind out a solid win over Apollo in their previous matchup back in February of 2017, winning 9-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
