The Columbus Grove Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Ayersville Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
If Columbus Grove beats Ayersville with 19 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Bulldogs blew past Ottoville 19-12 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Dakota Dunn made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. Dunn was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Zoey Patchet was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Carlie Aguirre was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ayersville). Everything went their way against Coldwater on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-2 win. Considering the Pilots' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Columbus Grove, Ayersville also got a great game from a two-way player: Kendra Waldron. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Waldron was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aeriel Brown, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miki Shreve, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Ayersville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Columbus Grove's record now sits at 2-0. As for Ayersville, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
