Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Blair

Blair extended their winning streak to five on Saturday, bumping them up to 15-4. Everything went their way against the Gretna East Griffins as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Taytum Macholan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Macholan was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Laynie Brown was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Mia McClain was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Blair always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gretna East only posted an OBP of .250.

As for Gretna East, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this game were averaging 3.87 runs allowed.

On Gretna East's side, Emerson Husen made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Husen's first of the season.

Blair has already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Hastings on the 13th. As for Gretna East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 4-0 win against Bennington on the 13th.
