Softball Recap: Rifle Extends Winning Streak to Five

Rifle waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Meeker Cowboys with a sharp 18-5 victory. Considering the Bears have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Brynn Axelson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two stolen bases. What's more, she posted three runs, the most she's had since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rylan Petree, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rifle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Rifle's record is now 10-4. As for Meeker, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rifle will head out to challenge Eagle Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.42 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Meeker, they will head out on the road to face off against Cedaredge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cowboys' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
