On Thursday, Farina South Central sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Newton.

Chase Guerrettaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Farina South Central is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Seth Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Edwards County came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.
Not much got past Jex Schnepper, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Flora off the board. Schnepper has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Edwards County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Hensley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Edwards County pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Farina South Central, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Farina South Central beat Edwards County 8-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
