Softball Recap: Fairfield Central Extends Winning Streak to Five

Fairfield Central had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Eau Claire Shamrocks. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-0 last Tuesday.

Myah McMillan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season.

In other batting news, Aaliyah Lyles was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Niyah Morgan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Fairfield Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .846. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .600 or higher in four consecutive games.

Fairfield Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eau Claire, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Fairfield Central will take on Newberry at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Eau Claire, they will face off against Chester at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
