The Shepherd Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Anderson-Shiro Fighting Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Shepherd focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Shepherd beat the Bulldogs 54-50.
Shepherd's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darrian Matthews led the charge by scoring 11 points along with six assists. Tristen Cullum was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Anderson-Shiro came up short against the Trojans on Friday and fell 62-54. While losing is never fun, Anderson-Shiro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1197th, while the Trojans are ranked 456th).
Shepherd has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-13 record this season. As for Anderson-Shiro, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season.
Shepherd didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Fighting Owls in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 62-56 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shepherd since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
