Greenfield-Central is a perfect 10-0 against Delta since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Greenfield-Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Greenfield-Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Noblesville on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Millers by a score of 8-7. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Greenfield-Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zander Cobb, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Hayden Kidd, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Delta never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Madison-Grant as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Maddox Huffman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Ryan Neal was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Chase Ritchie also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Delta hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison-Grant struck out ten times.
Delta's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Greenfield-Central, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield-Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Greenfield-Central beat Delta 8-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
