Freeport is 9-1 against Ponce De Leon since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Freeport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Ponce De Leon will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Freeport extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Bulldogs came out on top against Destin by a score of 8-5.
Kaylee Carroll spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Kayla Stephens was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Annsleigh Withey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ponce De Leon fell victim to Kinston and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 15-0 to the Bulldogs. The Pirates have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Freeport's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-9. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Ponce De Leon, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Ponce De Leon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Freeport has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for Ponce De Leon, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Freeport's hitters?
Freeport came out on top in a nail-biter against Ponce De Leon in their previous matchup on April 3rd, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
