Baseball Game Preview: Manitowoc Lincoln Ships vs. Notre Dame Academy Tritons

The Manitowoc Lincoln Ships will square off against the Notre Dame Academy Tritons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Manitowoc Lincoln sitting on six straight wins and Notre Dame Academy on seven.

While Manitowoc Lincoln's victory against Pulaski wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Ships' pitchers stepped up to hand the Red Raiders a 2-0 shutout on Friday. The two-run effort marked the Ships' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Manitowoc Lincoln's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nick Braun, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits Braun has posted since back in April of 2024. Benson Dickrell was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame Academy got the win against Ashwaubenon on Saturday by a conclusive 6-0. The result was nothing new for the Tritons, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ty Bumgardner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jack Frelich was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Cam Michiels also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Notre Dame Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Manitowoc Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manitowoc Lincoln has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
