The Holy Cross Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Providence Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holy Cross knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Providence likes a good challenge.
Holy Cross fought the good fight in their overtime match against Jeffersontown on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 70-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Holy Cross came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Jeffersontown is ranked 127th).
The losing side was boosted by Jacob Hand, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. The game was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Michael Loftis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Even though Providence has not done well against Floyd Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Providence snuck past Floyd Central with a 60-56 victory. The win was familiar territory for Providence who now have five in a row.
Holy Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 6-1. As for Providence, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
