Lafayette was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cameron Dragons. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Fighting Irish's highest-scoring matchup to date.
Elijah Castle put in work no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits were his first of the season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Quentin Leake and Carter Bruce did some serious damage despite the final result: Leake scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Bruce scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
