The Pahokee Blue Devils fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Moore Haven Terriers on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Terriers. Pahokee was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Moore Haven apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Pahokee lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Javian Jones, who scored 14 points. Jahtaj Dowdell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Moore Haven found their leader in underclassman Aaryn Askew, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Askew scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendavion Holligan, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Pahokee has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Moore Haven, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pahokee will take on Atlantic Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Atlantic Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pahokee in Florida (Atlantic Christian is ranked 205th, while Pahokee is ranked 697th). As for Moore Haven, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome East Lee County at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th.
