The Cienega Bobcats will face off against the Flowing Wells Caballeros at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cienega is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Flowing Wells will be up against a hot Cienega squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Bobcats' pitchers stepped up to hand Pueblo a 9-0 shutout on Thursday. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
ANDREW ROMO tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Cienega let JAMES LINZMEYER and NANO LOPEZ run wild. LINZMEYER scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while LOPEZ went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave LINZMEYER a new career-high. Another player making a difference was ZAK VASQUEZ, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Cienega always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 26 runs the game before, Flowing Wells was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They came up short against Desert View, falling 10-2.
Flowing Wells saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bruce Gonzalez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Oscar Murillo was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Cienega's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Flowing Wells, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12-1 record this season.
Flowing Wells' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Cienega has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Flowing Wells, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Cienega keep running through batters, or will the Caballeros buck the trend?
Cienega beat Flowing Wells 7-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Caballeros have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
