The Lafayette Rams came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Tabb 63-49. Given Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Tabb is ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lafayette's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jarquez Garrett led the charge by scoring 20 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. The matchup was Garrett's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Wayne Santos Jr was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Tabb's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Marbra, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Siegel, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
Even though they lost, Tabb were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Lafayette's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for Tabb, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will take on Grafton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tabb, they will be playing at home against Warhill at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Warhill is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
