Buena is 7-2 against Sahuaro since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Buena Colts on the road again and play against the Sahuaro Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. One thing working in Buena's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten contests.
Buena posted their biggest win yet this season on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 75-41 win over Desert View on the road. Given Buena's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Desert View is ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jamin Booker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Deangelo Hawthorne, who scored six points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Sahuaro can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They put the hurt on Pueblo with a sharp 63-40 victory. Winning may never get old, but Sahuaro sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Buena's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Sahuaro, their victory bumped their record up to 17-2.
Buena strolled past Sahuaro when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 64-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Buena since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
