The South Newton Rebels's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 44-34 win over Tri-Township. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win South Newton has managed all season.
South Newton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chayse Stillabower out in front who scored 11 points along with five steals. Stillabower has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Matthew Armstrong was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Tri-Township lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dillon Stewart. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Stewart continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kade Koselke, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
South Newton's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-12. As for Tri-Township, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Newton is on the road again on Wednesday and plays Donovan at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully South Newton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday. As for Tri-Township, they will head out on the road to take on Morgan Township at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Morgan Township's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Tri-Township has been banged up by 11 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
