Having struggled with five losses in a row, Gretna East turned things around against Hastings on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 3-0 victory. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Griffins yet this season.
Gretna East not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Hastings between 16 and 18 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.
Gretna East found their leader in sophomore Brooklyn Beethe, who had 16 digs and three assists. Maci Falcone also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Meanwhile, Blair posted their closest win since September 12, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Roncalli Catholic 2-1.
Blair found their leader in freshman Addi Svehla, who had 17 digs and four aces. Svehla is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played.
Blair's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Gretna East, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Gretna East has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Blair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
