The Southeast Halifax Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Weldon Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southeast Halifax is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
After only 18 points in their last match, Southeast Halifax made sure to put some points up on the board against KIPP P on Friday. Southeast Halifax blew past KIPP P 60-34. That 60-34 margin sets a new team best for Southeast Halifax this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southeast Halifax to victory, but perhaps none more so than Janiyla Pierce, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pierce has scored at least 25% of Southeast Halifax's points. Another player making a difference was Kemorriya Evans, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Weldon earned a 49-40 victory over Warren County on Friday.
Weldon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamya Coles, who scored 23 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaelyn Johnson, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, nine rebounds, and 12 steals.
Southeast Halifax's victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-4. As for Weldon, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Southeast Halifax have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Weldon, though, as they've been averaging only 38 rebounds per game. Given Southeast Halifax's sizeable advantage in that area, Weldon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Southeast Halifax couldn't quite finish off Weldon in their previous meeting back in January and fell 44-42. Can Southeast Halifax avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
