The West Field Longhorns are taking a road trip to challenge the Logan Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Monday, West Field earned an 11-6 win over Syracuse.
Brinklee Hadley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kam Bell, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Ella Doxey was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
West Field always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Syracuse only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Logan hadn't done well against Weber recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Logan was the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Weber. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Miley Allen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Logan got a massive performance out of Cambree Cooper, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kiki Laing, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Logan and bumps their season record up to 5-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for West Field, their record now sits at 3-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Field hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Logan struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
