The Springville Red Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Lone Peak Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Springville's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Springville and Payson, and Payson kept the tradition alive. Springville fell just short of Payson by a score of 12-11 on Tuesday. The loss was the Red Devils' first of the season.
Jaz Ciliezar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Tyler Haveron was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Ciliezar wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Springville lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payson only one home run.
Meanwhile, Lone Peak lost 12-2 to South Summit on Saturday.
Lone Peak saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clara Gourley, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Ainsley Erickson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Springville fell to 2-1. As for Lone Peak, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Lone Peak's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Springville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. It's a different story for Lone Peak, though, as they've only averaged .222. Will they be able to contain Springville's hitters?
Everything went Springville's way against Lone Peak when the teams last played back in March of 2015, as Springville made off with an 18-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
