The Fort Myers Green Wave were the 71-29 winner over the Lely Trojans when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Fort Myers was outmatched by Lely at home and fell 77-22. While losing is never fun, Fort Myers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 486th, while Lely is ranked 200th).
Lely found their leader in underclassman Sofiia Kiritsa, who scored 25 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kiritsa has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lashawnda Dareus, who scored 12 points.
Fort Myers has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Lely, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.
Fort Myers won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lehigh at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Lehigh focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Monday. As for Lely, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Fort Myers is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
