The Jackson Aggies came tearing into Friday's match with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Geneva 42-40.
Jackson had a senior duo take command as Tyra Caves scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals and Erica Walton scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Caves also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Angel Powell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Geneva lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Erica Torres, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The match was Torres' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Ward, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Jackson's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Geneva, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
Jackson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Harrison Central on December 30, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Harrison Central is ranked 21st in Mississippi, while Jackson is ranked 44th in Alabama). Geneva won't have much time to rest: their next game is against McGill-Toolen at 4:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. McGill-Toolen's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Geneva's offense will have their work cut out for Geneva.
