Volleyball Recap: Chavez Comes Up Short

The Chavez Titans came up short against the River Islands Riptide on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Titans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 25-15.

When it comes to explaining why Chavez lost, don't look at Brandon Nonnarath. Despite the final result, he had 27 digs, 19 kills, and one block. Nonnarath has been hot, having posted five or more kills the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Vang, who had 26 digs.

River Islands found their leader in sophomore Taray Irving, who had 16 digs and three aces. Those three aces set a new season-high mark for Irving.

Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for River Islands, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Chavez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Tokay on the 9th. As for River Islands, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy on the 10th.
