Inter-Academic recap November 5, 2013
Malvern Prep was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Episcopal Academy. The Friars came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.
Germantown Academy moved up to 151 from 194 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Inter-Academic. The Patriots climbed the ranks as a result of topping Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 41-23.
The Churchmen's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ryan Whayland threw for 237 and 2 touchdowns and Christian Feliziani had 58 yards receiving. On the ground Anthony Feliziani contributed 14 yards. Feliziani helped Episcopal Academy's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 34 yards.
He went 14-30 with 3 interceptions.
Whayland put up the best numbers in passing as Episcopal Academy lost to Malvern Prep. Whayland's favorite target this week was Feliziani, who caught 3 passes for 58 yards.
Episcopal Academy's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Churchmen feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Whayland has thrown for 1,827 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Evan Butts has 35 catches for 696 yards.
Todd Fairlie's team's Whayland is within 173 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Haverford School.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Kevin Pellegrini's team takes on the Blue Devils. The Friars are currently in second, while Springside Chestnut Hill Academy is in third.
Malvern Prep took down the Churchmen 49-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.
