In what's become a running theme this season, the Sandia Matadors gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Del Norte 65-12 on the road. Given Sandia's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Del Norte is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sandia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audri Wright, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Wright continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaiyah Benally, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Sandia pushed their record up to 14-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points per game. As for Del Norte, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Sandia will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Farmington at 6:00 p.m. Farmington is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games. As for Del Norte, they will head out on the road to square off against Laguna Acoma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
