The Ayersville Pilots and the Antwerp Archers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Ayersville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 566th, while Antwerp is ranked 173rd).
Last Saturday, Ayersville came up short against Jefferson and fell 48-41. Ayersville has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Antwerp over Patrick Henry in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Antwerp put the hurt on Patrick Henry with a sharp 61-41 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Antwerp has posted since December 28, 2023.
Antwerp's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Brewer, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Brewer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zaine McMichael, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Ayersville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Antwerp, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
Ayersville came up short against Antwerp in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 63-59. Can Ayersville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
