Football Game Preview: Westview Wolverines vs. Vista Panthers + Official Tickets

For the first time this season, Westview will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to square off against the Vista Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westview will be strutting in after a victory while Vista will be coming in after a defeat.

Westview took a 21-point loss the last time they faced off against Escondido, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines pulled ahead with a 17-16 photo finish over the Cougars on Friday.

Westview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Guimond led the charge by throwing for 152 yards and a pair of TDs. Guimond's passing game has become a key predictor of the Wolverines' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-4 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 28-14 bruising from Eastlake.

Westview will have to contain Broc Schweikhard as he made an impact in Vista's last game. He rushed for 59 yards and one score, and also picked up 50 receiving yards.

Westview is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points over those games. As for Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Westview was able to grind out a solid victory over Vista in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, winning 14-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
