The Martin Luther King Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 88-57 loss at the hands of Benjamin Franklin. While losing is never fun, Martin Luther King can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Benjamin Franklin is ranked 211th).
Despite the defeat, Martin Luther King saw an underclassman step up: Benito Scott scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scott has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makhai Robinson, who scored 12 points.
Benjamin Franklin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kneco Hill out in front who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Soukare Fane, who scored 21 points.
Martin Luther King bumped their record down to 4-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Benjamin Franklin, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Martin Luther King will play host again and welcome High School of the Future, where tip off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Benjamin Franklin, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Philadelphia Electric Charter at 4:30 p.m.
