Cleveland Central is a perfect 10-0 against Riverside since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The two teams will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:30 p.m. Cleveland Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Cleveland Central is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Yazoo County just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5.
Jaida Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Haley Sterling, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Riverside entered their tilt with Charleston on Thursday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with an 18-2 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won four matches by more than 13 runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Allie Reed made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Ann Brilye Hankins was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Hankins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Ashley English was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Riverside's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Cleveland Central, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 4-2.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cleveland Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .565. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Cleveland Central's way against Riverside in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Cleveland Central made off with a 12-3 victory. Will Cleveland Central repeat their success, or does Riverside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
