7A District 5 recap October 29, 2013
Jenkins scaled the state rankings by moving to 237 from 277 this week, the biggest jump in 7A District 5. The Eagles were able to move up by falling to Kathleen 35-20.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Lakeland beat Ridge 35-13. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Lakeland's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron Johnson threw for 79 and 2 touchdowns and Damon Black Jr. had 36 yards receiving. On the ground AJ Davis contributed 181 yards. Trenton Pearson helped Lakeland's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 13 yards.
Davis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Bill Castle's team topped the Bolts. Davis' key target this week was Black Jr., who caught 3 passes for 36 yards.
Black Jr. was the best wideout in the league this week as the Dreadnaughts defeated Ridge. Pearson helped Lakeland's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 13 yards.
Lakeland's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Dreadnaughts feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Johnson has thrown for 728 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Black Jr. has 22 catches for 277 yards.
The top two teams in 7A District 5 will face off this week when first place Lakeland takes on second place Kathleen. Lakeland beat Russell Rogers' team last week, while the Devils /Red defeated Jenkins.
Haines City took down Bartow 36-11 last week, the largest margin of any game.
